Brooke Humphreys holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Her work was featured in the Photographer’s Forum Best of College Photography 2011 and 2012 publication and also received an Honorable Mention in Louisiana Tech University’s Annual Juried Student Show for 2011 and 2012. Humphreys work uses mixed-media to explore the ideas of separation and loss within her personal encounters.
I make art in response to my experiences in life. The themes I often work with are separation and loss and how they influence the way I form relationships within my own experiences. Using mixed media, I find new ways to develop these ideas. The materials I use are often semi-transparent, allowing layering of photographic imagery with illustrations and other materials that relate to personal history. Thread is often used to connect myself with the maternal side of my family, my mother in particular because of the history of sewing that has been passed from my grandmother to my mother and now to myself.
